Built on the proven Remington® Model 700™, the VTR™ Bolt-Action Rifle has all the features you need for hardcore varmint and predator hunting and tactical shooting. At the heart of the VTR (Varmint Tactical Rifle) is the famous Model 700 action that has been proven for accuracy and reliability in combat with the U.S. Army’s M24 sniper rifle. The VRT utilizes a unique triangular contour barrel for increased structural rigidity with less weight over a conventional heavy contour barrel and increased heat dissipation. The barrel has an integral muzzle brake, with three vents perpendicular to the bore axis. The muzzle brake is counter-bored from the muzzle end and features a recessed, internal crown. The FDE synthetic stock features black over mold gripping areas, and a beavertail fore-end with three horizontal cooling vents. Dual sling swivel studs on the fore-end allow users to attach the bipod and sling simultaneously, and this model comes with a factory-installed collapsible bipod. An externally adjustable X-Mark Pro® trigger allows shooters to find the desired pull according to their preference. The 2-position safety allows the weapon to be loaded and unloaded with the safety engaged. The Remington Model 700 VTR Bolt-Action Rifle comes optics-ready with a full-length Picatinny receiver rail.

There’s no use trying to make an affordable hunting rifle, as there are plenty of those. Let the 700 be all it can be. For starters, get rid of that damned trigger that’s caused gun owners more problems than Bill Clinton, and replace it with a Timney, and be done with it. Also, with the older Remington 700s, the safety lever locked the bolt; get back to that and if the guy that got rid of that feature still works for Remington, fire him. The next thing to do is revise the stock so that the comb is a bit higher and will work better with a riflescope while helping to dissipate recoil.

For many years Remington offered a Classic 700 chambered for a different classic cartridge each year. Bring that back and start with something cool like a .257 Roberts or a .264 Winchester Magnum. Use good wood and polish and nicely blue all the metal work or use stainless steel. Also, we don’t need 47 variations of the same rifle. Most who want a Remington 700 configured in a specific way look to the hordes of aftermarket stocks and accessories and customize their own. We need a classic-style hunting rifle, a varmint rifle, a long-range precision rifle, a lightweight mountain rifle, and maybe a dangerous-game rifle. For those who want to create their own, sell Model 700 actions. And while you’re at it, don’t cut corners to save money, build them right; at least make sure the damned barrel is screwed on straight.

The bolt-action Remington 700 VTR (Varmint Target Rifle) has 20 models in five different groups covering four different calibers! The calibers are .223 Remington (5+1 capacity; 1:9” twist), .22-250 Remington (4+1; 1:14), .260 Remington (4+1; 1:8), and .308 Winchester (4+1; 1:10). All have a matte blued 22” long carbon steel barrel. This distinctive barrel has a rounded corner triangular cross-section and is triple-ported above the muzzle. The forend has triple ports on it too! The 700 VTRs are 41.625” long, weigh 7.625 pounds, have a 13.375” length of pull, and have a flat dark earth (FDE) stock.

Remington operated for over 200 years before shuttering for bankruptcy in 2020. A mainstay was the very popular Remington 700, in constant production since 1962. Remington made over 5,000,000 of them. The Remington 700 also spawned the Remington 721 and 722 sniper guns and was made in the town of Ilion, New York.

Though the 700 remington 308 families of centerfire bolt-action rifles have been around for decades, Remington has reinvested in improved tooling to make the weapon tighter tolerances and standards.

The entire Remington 700 308 series shares some excellent characteristics. For instance, their barrels are cold hammers forged for increased strength. Their conical tactical bolt knobs enjoy nicely textured surrounds. They also have precision 5R rifling that results in less deformation and easier cleaning. For safety and durability, the 700s have Remington’s Three Rings of Steel design. This means the bolt face has a recess that encloses the cartridge head, the barrel surrounds the bolt shroud, and the barrel threads into the hardened steel receiver.

At the bottom of each Remington 700 308 is a crisp Remington X-Mark Pro user-adjustable trigger that’s factory set to 3.5 pounds of pull pressure, but users can adjust it from 3 to 5 pounds. It is nickel-plated, corrosion-resistant, and housed within a glove-friendly oversized trigger guard. In the back is a Supercell Recoil Pad that soaks up felt recoil by 54% compared to other similar pads.

All this helps explain the remarkable popularity of the Made in USA Remington 700 family of bolt-action rifles.

Remington has now been operating for over 200 years. One mainstay is the beloved and very popular Remington 700, in constant production since 1962. Now over 5,000,000 have been made. The 700 is the basis for Remington 721 and 722 sniper guns and is made in the town of Ilion, New York.

Rather than being one model, the rem 700 308 is a family of guns. This includes the Monte Carlo-style walnut stock Model 700 Custom “”C””, Model 700 North American Custom, Model 700 North American SS Custom, stainless steel and bipod-ready Model 700 Custom Sendero, and desert camo Model 700 SIXSITE Edition.

The rem 700 308 come in a variety of calibers, barrel lengths, and magazines.

One standout is the limited edition bolt-action 6.5 Creedmoor Remington 700 NRA American Hunter, a collaboration between Remington and the NRA. It’s an elegant 4+1 20” long barrel on a polymer olive drab stock. It’s fluted for strength and rigidity, is five grooves threaded, and has a 1 to 8” twist rate. Overall length is 39.375” and weight is 6.75 pounds.

Though this gun doesn’t come with sights or a scope, atop the gun are mounts for Leupold Mark 4-type scopes. The 700 Remington 308 has the Premium Bell & Carlson stock with an aluminum bedding block for rigidity and weight reduction and a clean-breaking X Mark Pro trigger adjustable for 3.5 to 5 pounds of pull. Its special butt stock reduces felt recoil by over half.

The desert camo Remington Model 700 SIXSITE Edition has interesting “skip” fluting along the barrel. Eschewing the normal columnar fluting of other fluted barrels, this one has rectangular indents in several lines along the length of the copper Cerakoted barrel. It also has dorsal and ventral accessory rails and comes standard with a scope.
